Okay – I know I’m not the first person to question my own competency in the English language upon being asked to translate gibberish into a letter sequence as part of a website security check. This particular example of internet muscle found on the Colorado Rockies website gave me more trouble than usual. I think I correctly interpreted the code on my second visit and 5th total try – long after I had forgotten my intention on the site. By the time I did get through, I was too worn and emotionally exhausted to even proceed in purchasing the tickets. But boy was it satisfying.
Two recommendations. 1) Rename the “What is this?” link to “Why? Why are you doing this to me!?” which would be more in line with users concerns. 2) If you are going to have this type of human authentication, make sure real humans can actually figure it out.
Within the pop-up, there was an explanation of the need for the barrier and the dangers of web robots. Terrifying.
